My Debt Free Bucket List

A lot of us make bucket lists in terms of what we want to do before we die, but what if we created bucket lists around what we’d do if we were free of debt? Here’s what I would do…

  1. Take my Mum on a Weekend Spa Break.
My mum has suffered a lot in recent years and it’s a shame that I haven’t been there for her as much as I would have liked to be. I know a weekend away won’t take away all the pain, but we do miss one another and we do keep planning to go away somewhere calm and chilled out for a couple of days; it just never happens. But one day I’d like to take her somewhere for a full 2 or 3 days of unadulterated R & R.

  1. Visit St. Petersburg
The one in Russia, that is, not Florida! I have adored Russia ever since I studied Russian history at school and began reading the classics by Dostoevskii, Tolstoi, Chekov, Gogol et al. I even ended up studying Russian Literature for my MA. And, in 2006, I was lucky enough to visit Moscow. I loved every moment of it and now I want to go to Russia’s other most famous city—especially as that’s where the majority of Dostoevskii’s work is set.

  1. Go the FIFA World Cup Final
As a football soccer football fan, I would go crazy if I had the means to attend football’s biggest match in football’s biggest tournament. Even though I support England and it doesn’t look like they’ll be getting to a final any time soon, the thought of me being debt-free enough to attend the next World Cup final in Brazil motivates me to manage my money better.

  1. Learn Ballroom Dancing
Every year I watch Strictly Come Dancing in the build up to Christmas and every year I promise myself that I’ll start taking ballroom classes myself in the New Year. But then 1st January rolls around and I don’t have the time because I’m working to pay off my Christmas debts and I don’t have the money, because, you guessed it, I’m using it to pay off my Christmas debts. I’d like this time to be different.

  1. Spend a week cooking elaborate recipes for family and friends
I love cooking. The more complex and intricate the dish, the better. Cooking is where art and science meet as far as I’m concerned. I especially like cooking with and for people. Food is such a social thing and the actual preparation and cooking of it is a big part of that social aspect. So once I’m debt-free, I’d like to take a week off work, invite my loved ones round to my house and then just spend 7 days, cooking, eating and laughing with them.

So what’s inspired me to share my debt-free bucket list with you? I’m trying to win the brilliant $500 Enemy of Debt competition, sponsored by Life Insurance Finder the life insurance comparison experts.
